Message : Mon Cher Bryan!
If you are 30, how old am I ??? It's hard to believe I knew you when you were 12.
I have known thousands, REALLY, of students. A few remain with me. You are most
definitely one of them. Thinking of you makes me smile, always. A good sense of
humor, wisdom and smarts always impress me. I'm inspired by the man you have become.
The depth of your wondering, your strong values, your excellent marriage, the pursuit
of your goals. May life always bring you the best, and may this be the best of all your
thirty years. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Fondly, Elaine Phelps |

Message : Hey Bryan!
Who would've thunk that the kid who asked the most interesting questions in IB Biology class would in fact superceed the teacher in his ability to Pile it Higher and Deeper - PHD! Congrats and on finding someone who obiously loves you enough to do this book.
Bryan was the first student of mine I bought a drink for. Remember that? You just turned 21 and we went to a Phoenix Suns game. I have many fond memories with Bryan. ANother memorable time while still in school was when Shane Rabindranth decided he could ride bareback on a horse after our Seven Springs sampling. Bryan was to hold the horse for Shane and lead him around. The next thing I know the horse was running away bucking with Shane hanging upside down under the horse clinging on for dear life! I never got the true story but I think Bryan had a branding iron hidden somewhere. I also remember going out 4-wheelin with my sister between the Verde River and Bartlett Lake whereby we had some laughs...and a few beers too!
It sounds like your life is as it should be exciting and fullfilling!
Happy Every(Birth)day! |

Message : Happy 30th Birthday "Big Bro"! Man, you're old! No, I'm just kidding, 30 isn't old at all - you're really just getting started :) And with your focus, drive, intelligence, and winning personality, I'm sure you'll be enjoying the success and happiness you've worked so hard to achieve for many years to come!
Best wishes, and good luck with those pesky little quarks and bosons! ;)
Take care,
Blake

Message : Happy B-Day bro. I am reminded of the famous scientist who said "What goes up must come down!" obviously this genius wasn't talking about age (or weight). So now your 30. As the last one of six (as you and your siblings) to turn 30, I'm afraid I can't offer any words of wisdom about reaching this incredible milestone. All I can say is that it sure is nice to still be in my twenties. I hope your next 30 years will bring you more hair, less stress, and bunches of fun. Again happy B-Day bro.
Sincerly your younger bro-in-law,
Ben |

Message : Bryan,
How time flies, you're going to be the big 30! How is that possible? I met you when you were 12. Remember how important calling "shot gun" use to be. The first camping trip your father took you on...Chis was not the outdoors type. It was better when we went to Rocy Point in an RV and took your friend "dirt". You did catch a lot of fish....How are friends called you and your brother "ditto & ditto" because they couldn't tell you apart. Your movie reviews...I use to love those...see you at the movies! The excitement when you can back from band camp. The trips cross country to your Grandmother's house. How to see the USA in 10 days with Chris at the wheel, if he can stay awake. The fireworks shows you put on at Rocky Point and at your cousin Danny's in Wisconsin. Building rockets and robets. Cooking for us on Fathers day! The mass of gifts under the tree at Christmas.... Band camp in the heat of August, but you guys looked so good! Fund raising to travel and preform in a parade, your dad at a car wash. The High School IB program...You are so smart. I just never knew pizza was such good brain food! Going to the Suns games together...are you still a Suns fan? Your trips to France, once as a sister city representative for Phoenix, and hosting students at the house in Scottsdale. And of course the "Big One" teaching you to drive. I attribute a lot of gray hairs to those driving lessons, but we did it. Your shiney red Mercedes, oh how you loved that car.
I am so proud of your accomplishments and the man you have become.
But always remember, I have some photos that are more embarassing then the one's posted here;-)) Just kidding!
I wish I could be there to celebrate with you...but maybe someday.
Always know this, I love you and care about you if you ever need me....I am here for you.
Enough for memory lane.....I hope it was as good for you as it was for me?
NOW, GO CELEBRATE!
Carol |

Message : Bryan,
Wow we are both 30 this year! Time passes by so fast. It seems like just yesterday we were all graduate students at Stony Brook fighting against the evil Tang dynasty. We were a tough team: Masa, Jasmina, Peg, Shawn, Angel, you, and I. Now, you are a post doct with traveling guest appearances and presenting at conferences. I hope you guys make it over to the West coast sometime.
I can not thank you and Angel enough for helping me out with your letters of recommendation. I am enjoying my fabulous life in sunny Las Vegas. I am teaching a scriptwriting class and an English class. I am also doing research for a professor and taking four doctorate classes. So life is keeping me busy.
I miss you guys. Stay in touch. Bryan have a great birthday!

Ahhh, I remember my 30th Birthday, it was mere minutes before Bryan's. It would have been great if we could have synchronized our locations this year, but there will be many many more years to try to do this.
The best story I can think of for Brum (the name I have always used for my little brother) is the time I came to Chicago for Spring Break, everybody got drunk (think of a combination of Animal House and Revenge of the Nerds), we hit the streets all shouting "Maxwell Street, Maxwell Street", it was about 2:30 in the morning, and wouldn't you know, there was *A LINE* at the burger joint we were storming, and every person there either reeked of reefer or beer, or both.
Good times, good times...
Here's to the next best part of life, the middle. :)

Message : I love my little brother, or should I say as of the 21st my older brother. I refuse to be that old. LOL. I have better bribery pictures.
The most interesting story I can think of right now is how Bryan cut the corner out of his bedroom window screen to let in ET. I don't think he will ever live it down. |

I hope you appreciate how young 30 really is. It's interesting that Sarah recalled the near dunk in Lake Erie, that came to my mind as well:) Being family, we have tons of special memories both wonderful and occasionally sad. Miss you tons!
