were embarrassing? you nearly scared off my boyfriend, arriving at

we were leaving, you and Marion with the Prince Charles
ears. You've made up for it royally as an extra grandad and letting
me repack in your hallway. Thanks Bellhop Bill with love from

Comment: Well, Bill, you
made it before me again! 60-years young. Wow! It's funny how one's
impression of age changes. "When I'm sixty-four" used to
sound ancient, but now we know it's still pretty young.
May you have a wonderful day and many more to come.
Your (almost) equally-aged best man.
Love to you both,
David and Annette

Comment: Dear Uncle Bill,
Congratulations on the successful completion of six decades. Thank
you for all the times that you babysat me although I honestly
can't remember any of them. I was after all only 18 months old
when we moved to live Down Under. However as you say it gave you
the opportunity to snog Auntie Joan so it was obviously
worthwhile.

when I was 14. You were always at work but I enjoyed listening to
you playing the guitar at the end of the day even if others were
unfairly critical of your prowess. We loved your beautiful home in
Green Lane and my brothers tiptoed around the edge of the garden
bed so as to not destroy the beautiful carpet of snow that we were
sure you had arranged for us. It was wonderful to meet the Uncle
who, until that time, had just been a name and |

1984 I visited again - this time with my new husband in tow.
Although you were very busy with work you were the consummate
host, with a driving tour of London and a day out at Brighton.
This of course was the trip where the British/Australian rivalry
for sport was formed with the inaugural golf match at the Epsom
course.
Each year since there had been a promise to come and visit us Down
Under.

with the promise that you would come when you retired. Each year
that retirement was deferred until 2001 when, quite frankly, we
were gobsmacked. It was finally going to happen and so we enjoyed
showing you just a snippet of this vast country. I could see that
Uncle Bill hadn't changed in all those years. He still couldn't
stay still for a moment - busy being competitive |

value your help and support (and the odd moment of banter too)
both for me personally and for Becky/I together as a team.
As I said at our wedding, I believe Joan and yourself have
developed both a great marriage and
raised a wonderful family. I only hope that Becky and I are lucky
enough and prove similarly dedicated over time to do the same. |

myself to add golf to that list just yet...maybe one day...with a
lot more practice....

engineer was recruited by Bill and the first site visit with this
experienced figure was much anticipated. En route Bill's car
started to falter due to a lack of attention to the petrol gauge.
Luck came to the rescue as a garage immediately appeared by the
roadside, the car limped into the forecourt and was replenished.
Bill however had insufficient cash to pay and the young engineer
had to give him a sub. The illusion of infallability was shattered
but a valuable lesson in life wa |

Dad! What a cool site-and scary that people around the world can
see that Dame Edna outfit! (some things are best forgotten) So,
you're finally at the big milestone! For you it will no doubt be
"Sixty-teen" as we all know you are an eternal teenager
at heart! It's been a pleasure watching you relax into retirement
over the past year - you've worked hard all your life so it's
great to see you concentrating on enjoying yourself and seeing a
bit more of the world. You deserve it! |

you've done for us in life - as a boy you coached me in everything
from study to sport, and as a man you've always been there for me
to help talk through life's ups, downs, and crossroads. So many
happy memories, so here's a few:
- First to 100 pool match Eldoret Xmas
- Digging out the tree stump in the back garden and knocking down
the coal shed
- Coming home on a Friday night after work with a small brown
paper bag we knew had sweets in .....

- Basketball at nightschool, and the roadtrip to watch Kingston vs

- Porky-wokky, chicken-wokky, and beef-wokky.
- Collecting me with a bucket in your new Jag after my first
alcohol excess
- Various DIY wonders that were generally over-engineered, and
(according to mum) over-due...... |

My one request for your next decade:
* Take looking after your body very seriously - it is your most
valuable asset.
We want to see you living life to the full when you are

have to mention my "most embarrassing father" moment,
when you insisted on not only driving me to a restaurant dressed

makes me laugh all the time!
