Comment: Becky thought you were embarrassing? you nearly scared off my boyfriend, arriving at our house dressed as Dame Edna, with a "giv'us a kiss" as we were leaving, you and Marion with the Prince Charles ears. You've made up for it royally as an extra grandad and letting me repack in your hallway. Thanks Bellhop Bill with love from Emily,Lydia & Alyssa too.xxx

Comment: Well, Bill, you made it before me again! 60-years young. Wow! It's funny how one's impression of age changes. "When I'm sixty-four" used to sound ancient, but now we know it's still pretty young.
May you have a wonderful day and many more to come.
Your (almost) equally-aged best man.
Love to you both,
David and Annette

Comment: Dear Uncle Bill,
Congratulations on the successful completion of six decades. Thank you for all the times that you babysat me although I honestly can't remember any of them. I was after all only 18 months old when we moved to live Down Under. However as you say it gave you the opportunity to snog Auntie Joan so it was obviously worthwhile.

Comment: We met up again when I was 14. You were always at work but I enjoyed listening to you playing the guitar at the end of the day even if others were unfairly critical of your prowess. We loved your beautiful home in Green Lane and my brothers tiptoed around the edge of the garden bed so as to not destroy the beautiful carpet of snow that we were sure you had arranged for us. It was wonderful to meet the Uncle who, until that time, had just been a name and

Although you were very busy with work you were the consummate host, with a driving tour of London and a day out at Brighton. This of course was the trip where the British/Australian rivalry for sport was formed with the inaugural golf match at the Epsom course.
Each year since there had been a promise to come and visit us Down Under.

Comment: Each year passed with the promise that you would come when you retired. Each year that retirement was deferred until 2001 when, quite frankly, we were gobsmacked. It was finally going to happen and so we enjoyed showing you just a snippet of this vast country. I could see that Uncle Bill hadn't changed in all those years. He still couldn't stay still for a moment - busy being competitive

PS Please, please take Matt's advice - slow down, take care of your health and make sure one of those future trips is Down Under.

Comment: Bill - I really value your help and support (and the odd moment of banter too) both for me personally and for Becky/I together as a team.

As I said at our wedding, I believe Joan and yourself have developed both a great marriage and
raised a wonderful family. I only hope that Becky and I are lucky enough and prove similarly dedicated over time to do the same.

Comment: Happy 60th Birthday to the Master. Guru and consultant for all things technical and domestic -now even with laundry added to the long list of mastery (you know though that I'll now be sending down my socks on a regular basis!). However I still can't quite bring myself to add golf to that list just yet...maybe one day...with a lot more practice....

Comment: The young engineer was recruited by Bill and the first site visit with this experienced figure was much anticipated. En route Bill's car started to falter due to a lack of attention to the petrol gauge. Luck came to the rescue as a garage immediately appeared by the roadside, the car limped into the forecourt and was replenished. Bill however had insufficient cash to pay and the young engineer had to give him a sub. The illusion of infallability was shattered but a valuable lesson in life wa

Comment: Well Bill, they say a picture paints a thousand words and words cannot describe the way I feel having seen the ones on this website!! They are fantastic and I feel privileged to have been given this opportunity to sign your guestbook. Thank you for all your help with the ACE - your on-going (and varied) contribution to our work is invaluable and I am very grateful. Have a wonderful 60th birthday and many, many happy returns!
With best wishes,
Nora

Comment: Cheers to you Bill
You're not over the hill
Although you're now sixty
Keep being frisky
As life is for living
And friendship for giving
Retirement is fun
And over years you've won
The right to relax
So don't get in a wax

Comment: When one calls you old
Say that you have been told
You're as young as you feel
And that means a great deal
So get pie-eyed sick

Comment: Sweetheart, you can't be 60! That means I have known and loved you for 45 years! You will never be an old man - your sense of humour is far too mischievous for that. Have a happy, happy day with all your family and friends, and never change being the lovely, kind, generous and stubborn Bill that I have loved for a lifetime. Your (expected) grandchildren will love you just the way you are! My undying love for ever (so long as you don't tell the world it is my turn next year!). Joan XXX

Comment: Happy Birthday Dad! What a cool site-and scary that people around the world can see that Dame Edna outfit! (some things are best forgotten) So, you're finally at the big milestone! For you it will no doubt be "Sixty-teen" as we all know you are an eternal teenager at heart! It's been a pleasure watching you relax into retirement over the past year - you've worked hard all your life so it's great to see you concentrating on enjoying yourself and seeing a bit more of the world. You deserve it!

Comment: Thanks for all you've done for us in life - as a boy you coached me in everything from study to sport, and as a man you've always been there for me to help talk through life's ups, downs, and crossroads. So many happy memories, so here's a few:
- First to 100 pool match Eldoret Xmas
- Digging out the tree stump in the back garden and knocking down the coal shed
- Coming home on a Friday night after work with a small brown paper bag we knew had sweets in .....

Comment: So many happy memories, so here's a few more :

- Basketball at nightschool, and the roadtrip to watch Kingston vs Portsmouth, and cup finals at the Albert Hall.

- Porky-wokky, chicken-wokky, and beef-wokky.

- Collecting me with a bucket in your new Jag after my first alcohol excess

- Various DIY wonders that were generally over-engineered, and (according to mum) over-due......

Comment: Three wishes for your next decade:
* Travel to somewhere amazing every year.
* Get back to your love of art
* Get your golf handicap to 10 (where it should be!)
My one request for your next decade:
* Take looking after your body very seriously - it is your most valuable asset.
We want to see you living life to the full when you are ninety-teen!
Love you,
Matt

Comment: Well - there were so many photos to choose from! I think we have actually
been very kind to you in NOT including some of the more 'revealing' photos
of you. like the one of you playing the guitar naked in the back garden at
Eldoret?!
I still remember your 40th birthday party -when you woke the next morning
only to puke in the garden hedge! And that was in the days when you could
take your drink?! .....> Continued

Comment: And of course, I have to mention my "most embarrassing father" moment, when you insisted on not only driving me to a restaurant dressed as a Teddy Boy, but then on coming INTO the restaurant to show all my friends your outfit!! Anyway- you know I love you very much - both for your joie de vivre, and your soppy sentimental side. I am lucky to have a dad who is not afraid to tell me he loves me, yet makes me laugh all the time!
Have a great birthday,
All my love,
Beckyxxxxx

Comment: On a skiing holiday in Meribel you realised, as a consultant structural engineer, that the French design of chair lifts is lacking in safety. It is only too easy to fall out of the seat!?!?.
Do you remember the Trout Run and our childish delight when we got down without falling? After that it was PISTE,PISTE,PISTE. We are sure that there will be much of that today.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
